Significant Life Experiences that led me to HLCS: HLCS began when I was a senior in high school. Even though I was not able to attend here, I have had a passion for the school and the need for Christian education in today's world. I received my bachelor's degree from Spring Arbor University which helped to prepare me, not only for teaching, but teaching with a Christian perspective.

I love HLCS because… of the love that the staff and the families have for each other and for the students. I saw multiple examples of other people going out of their way to help my children succeed.

Significant Life Experiences that led me to HLCS: After getting my bachelors degree in Special education, K-12, with a minor in Language Arts, I have been pursuing my Masters in Special Education. My experience has allowed me to provide support services to students with special needs as well as classroom intervention services.

I love HLCS because… My first reason is because of the wonderful family environment we have at the school. The relationships with the kids, parents and staff are outstanding. My second reason is the students. They fill my life with joy and are such a blessing to me. My greatest joy working in Christian School is the opportunity to worship our LORD and pray with students.

Significant Life Experiences that led me to HLCS: I came to teach at Harbor Light because I am a HLCS graduate and wanted my children to have a similar educational experience.

I love HLCS because… it is a family friendly environment where my children's education can be based in the word of God.  As a teacher, I love the staff and students and look forward to spending time with them.

Activities & hobbies I enjoy: Outside of school, I enjoy leading worship, playing volleyball, re-decorating my home, and spending time with my family.

Significant Life Experiences that led me to HLCS: My first contact with HLCS was as a student. My seventh grade year was the first year of HLCS as a school. I graduated from Harbor Light in 1991 and went on to study ethnomusicology at Wheaton College and Kent State University. Returning to Northern Michigan after 4 years in Thailand, I joined the staff of Harbor Light Community Chapel as the Arts Director. Through my work at Harbor Light Chapel, I was given the opportunity to help write the curriculum for, and teach Bible to the Junior and Senior classes. I have immensely enjoyed the experiences I have had as a teacher to the great students of HLCS.

I love HLCS because… it is a place where faith and learning are brought together and applied to the lives of the students and faculty. It is also a place where people are treated as children of God, made in His image.

Activities & hobbies I enjoy: making music, skiing, cycling, and photography.

Significant life experiences that led me to HLCS: God did.  I was not looking to teach at all but when my kids heard that Mrs. Ledingham would be retiring they encouraged me to teach history.  I told them they were crazy and that I was not interested.  They kept bugging me and then Mr. Vanest talked to me and encouraged me to consider it.  God moved my heart to really think about teaching history and I began to get really excited about it. 

I love HLCS because… the spiritual aspect of my student is just as important, or more so, to the staff at Harbor Light as the educational aspect.  The staff has really had an impact on the spiritual development of my kids.  I like that I can pray with my students and openly discuss the spiritual aspects of history and how history is His (God's) story.

Activities & hobbies I enjoy: Reading, Hiking, Cooking

Significant life experiences that led me to HLCS: I became involved in the school in 1991 when our children asked to come here.

I love HLCS because… I love helping students get the Word of God into their mind and heart, equipping them “…for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ…” so they won’t be “…tossed to and from carried about by every wind of doctrine…but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head-Christ…” (Eph. 4:12-16). I desire that each one would be able to go out into the world saying in his heart, “I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes…” (Romans 1:16)

Activities & hobbies I enjoy: I enjoy being alive and spending time with family. I like to ski, hike, camp, swim, paint (oil and watercolor), ceramics, woodworking, stained glass, and photography.
