HLCS Swordsman Athletic Mission Statement

The mission of Harbor Light Christian School Athletics is to bring honor to Jesus Christ, the fans, the school, and the community. The purpose of HLCS Athletics is to guide and help all participants grow and develop in their Godly character and commitment. Success will be measured by God’s standards, not the worlds.

HLCS General Philosophy of Athletics

The purpose of athletics at Harbor Light Christian School is to provide opportunities for coaches, players, cheerleaders and fans to learn how to compete under pressure. Athletics are a great source of exercise, competition, and fun. Athletes are watched by the community, therefore, they need to be committed to excellence and represent Christ and HLCS with humility and dignity at all times (Col 3:23). According to God’s word, we know that a man’s ways are not God’s ways (Is 55:9, 9). Man’s definition of winning does not necessarily coincide with God’s. The effort that an athlete gives is more important than the final result of the competition itself (Col 3:17). Also, Jesus Christ is to be the center of our attention both on and off the field of play. We are to have His actions and attitudes (Phil 2:5). Furthermore, since Christ loved us so much and gave up everything He had for us (Phil 2:8), it is natural then for us to give all we have for Him in return.
