Dual-Enrollment Policies
A student is required to take either four years of English at HLCS or three years of English at HLCS plus one year of College English from North Central Michigan College or any other approved university in order to graduate. The same policy will take place for any other college classes a student may want to transfer. Students will receive ½ credit for each college class up to a limit of three credits (six college classes) during their high school career. In summary, a student would be able to graduate from HLCS with 22-25 credits depending on the number of college classes she/he takes and passes. HLCS has the option of approving what college classes will count as credits. This would only affect those students who want to transfer credits to a university that does not accept dual-enrollment credits.
All classes required for graduation from Harbor Light Christian School must be taken at HLCS. Students will be encouraged to take classes that fall into the category of electives unless good reason (scheduling conflicts, completion of graduation requirements) can be established for them to take required courses at NCMC. Dual-enrollment may take place under the following conditions:
Parent(s) and students must fill out the “Request to take NCMC classes form” that will ask them to tell why they desire and/or need to take these classes. Permission will be granted by the administration to students who are spiritually mature and have the need or desire to take NCMC classes.

Seniors Taking One Class @ NCMC
All seniors are encouraged to take one NCMC dual-enrolled class per semester. The school will pay the tuition cost for three credits per semester based upon the Emmet county rate. The cost for three credits will be credited to the family financial statement after the school office has received a copy of the paid receipt and notification that the student has passed the class. This policy has several facets:
Students will be given the opportunity to put their faith into practice and to impact NCMC with the Christian Worldview.
Educationally, this will provide many classes and electives that HLCS cannot provide with present staff and schedule.
With college in mind, students can complete at least two classes that can be transferred into most college programs.
This program would necessitate the involvement of both parents and school counselor in the process.
This program is available to all who are paying partial or full tuition to HLCS. Partial tuition payers will receive the same percentage of credit that they are paying in tuition.
* Students may also take on-line classes and may petition for equivalent reimbursement to dual-enrolled classes.
